Kōkiri | Advocacy

Uhi Tai exists to challenge the status quo. Our advocacy work is focused on driving systemic change in Aotearoa’s marine governance frameworks by centring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tikanga Māori in policy and practice.

We engage in policy development, respond to government reforms, and work alongside partners to uplift indigenous-led solutions for our moana. Whether through formal submissions, position statements, or strategic collaboration, our goal is to ensure that Māori voices, values, and rights are not only heard—but embedded. Advocacy at Uhi Tai is not reactive; it is purposeful, forward-thinking, and grounded in the belief that lasting change is possible when it begins at the source.
