Mātauranga | Training

Uhi Tai’s training and development kaupapa is about putting knowledge into practice—supporting individuals, communities, agencies, and organisations to reimagine their relationship with the moana through a tikanga Māori lens.

Our wānanga and tailored workshops are open to anyone—whether you’re part of iwi or hapū, a marae committee, a government agency, community group, or simply someone passionate about the future of our oceans. While our approach is grounded in mātauranga Māori and led by tikanga, our training is designed to be accessible and impactful for all.

Through applied learning, we explore how the principles of Tangaroa Ararau can guide decision-making, governance, and care for our marine environments. From revitalising customary practices and planning local marine initiatives, to navigating policy frameworks or building cross-cultural capability, our training offerings are relational, practical, and grounded in place. We believe meaningful change happens when people are equipped to lead from where they stand—and when we all recognise our shared responsibility to Tangaroa.
